CALABASAS, CA — "Kimye" is officially over.

On Friday, a representative for Kim Kardashian West - soon to be Kim Kardashian - confirmed to TMZ that she has filed for divorce from rapper Kanye West after nearly seven years of marriage. The report has also been confirmed by a spokesperson for the Los Angeles Superior Court.

Details from the filing are not immediately available.

Sources told TMZ that despite a rocky 2020, their divorce is off to an amicable start. Kardashian is asking for joint legal and physical custody of their four children, and West is reportedly on board. Sources also told TMZ that neither party are disputing their prenuptial agreement.

Rumors of an impending split have been long in the making. Us Weekly reported that Kardashian has had celebrity divorce lawyer Laura Wasser on retainer since last summer. This will be West's first divorce and Kardashian's third. Wasser represented Kardashian in her split from basketball player Kris Humprhies.

Long-simmering divorce rumors escalated after West, who was diagnosed with bipolar disorder in 2017, began displaying increasingly erratic behavior over the course of 2020.

He launched a quixotic bid for president in July, erected giant white walls around the couple's Calabasas home, and claimed in since deleted tweets that Kardashian was trying to "lock him up" against his will into mental health treatment, and that she and her mother Kris Jenner are "white supremacists" and that he wanted a divorce. In July, West began crying on stage at a presidential rally as he claimed that he and Kardashian had planned to abort their first child, North West.

Kardashian addressed her husband's mental health in a July Instagram post, denying that she could force him to seek mental health treatment because he's not a minor. Kardashian also confirmed her husband's bipolar diagnosis.

"He is a brilliant but complicated person who on top of the pressures of being an artist and a black man, who experienced the painful loss of his mother, and has to deal with the pressure and isolation that is heightened by his bi-polar disorder," she wrote in a lengthy statement. "Those who are close to Kanye know his heart and understand his words sometimes do not align with his intentions."

West has spoken publicly about his mental health struggles, which have included hospitalization in November 2016 after police were called to his house by his doctor following a "psychiatric emergency." In 2019, he told David Letterman that during a manic episode, "You feel everyone wants to kill you, you pretty much don't trust anyone, and they have this moment where they handcuff you, they drug you, they put you on the bed, and they separate you from everyone you know."

With West's mental health appearing to decline, the couple has reportedly spent much of the last year apart: Kardashian has stayed in Los Angeles with their children, while West stayed at his ranch in Wyoming. Recent photos showed Kardashian without her wedding ring, and West was not present in a family Christmas photo.

The two met in the early 2000s, but didn't become romantically linked until 2012. In 2013, just after Kardashian finalized her divorce with basketball player Kris Humphries, West proposed to Kardashian by renting out a sports stadium and hiring an orchestra, all of which was documented on the reality show Keeping Up With The Kardashians. Their 2014 wedding in Florence, Italy was equally lavish - crooner John Legend and famous opera singer Andrea Bocelli serenaded them at the Belvedere Fort, which they rented for $410,000. The couple even hosted a pre-wedding party at the Chateau de Versailles in France.

Even during 2020, the couple shared a few tender moments. In June, West congratulated his wife for selling a stake in her beauty brand to Coty for $200 million.

"I am so proud of my beautiful wife Kim Kardashian West for officially becoming a billionaire," he wrote, though various estimates place her net worth closing to $750 million. "You've weathered the craziest storms and now God is shining on you and our family."

In October, West gave Kardashian a hologram of her late father for her 40th birthday. "For my birthday, Kanye got me the most thoughtful gift of a lifetime," she tweeted.

But after many more fights, insiders agreed that it was only a matter of time before the two called it quits. After West tweeted a video of himself urinating on one of his Grammy Awards, a source told Us that Kardashian was "considering her options when it comes to her future."

"Kim and Kanye haven't been on the same page for a while now," another source told Us, saying that Kardashian was "done" with West's behavior. "Kanye isn't as focused and doesn't live in the real world. Their world views no longer line up."

Unsurprisingly, the news lit up social media, with many users posting memes about how happy they imagined both parties are:
