LA’s Newest Bands Perform on Cantina Stage Hosted by KLOS’s Mr. Shovel

Music fans who live in the valley can discover new bands at Sagebrush Cantina hosted by KLOS's Mr. Shovel.

Music fans who live in the valley don’t have to travel far this summer to discover what’s new on LA’s music scene. The bands are coming to them courtesy of the Sagebrush Cantina and radio station 95.5 KLOS’s “Mr Shovel” aka Mark Sovel. A first for the valley, the host of Sunday’s Check One…Two program is bringing out some of favorite groups to play on this side of Los Angeles.

Sovel, who scouts and airs new bands for his Sunday night program on KLOS, has given first commercial airplay to such artists as Arcade Fire, Black Keys, My Morning Jacket, MGMT, and Arctic Monkeys.

Introducing the Warbly Jets, Sovel told the crowd, “When you read about this band in the future, you can say you saw them first on the cantina’s stage.” Warbly Jets’ offered an impressive set of original songs featuring big rock guitars blended with electronic components. They will soon tour China. Also performing was Side Eyes, delivering a rapid fire set of Ramones-style riffs.

A contest to win weekend trip tickets to the upcoming Ohana Festival, September 8 - 10 in Dana Point, was won by Robert Hernandez of Winnetka. The concert weekend features Eddie Vedder, Jack Johnson, Pixies, Social Distortion, Fiono Apple, Haim and more. More tickets will be given away at the July and August events.

On July 14, “Mr. Shovel” will present The Buttertones, who blend together all the best elements from 50s and early 60s rock ‘n’ roll: surf guitar riffs, rockabilly rhythms, a rockin’ saxophone, and distinctive crooner-style vocals. Also performing is The Paranoyds.
