Mayor Bozajian's Letter, Jan. 22
The city works towards its own vaccination site, and gets ready for commission appointments.

Press release from Mayor James Bozajian:
Jan. 22, 2021
For the first time in several weeks, I can report the COVID numbers are slowly starting to improve. As you know, Los Angeles County has been hit hard by a surge of cases coming out of the holiday season. Overall, cases and hospitalizations are dropping slowly --- very slowly. Here in Calabasas, next week someone in our city will likely be the 1,000th resident diagnosed with COVID. That may not seem like much for a city of around 25,000 people, but to place things in perspective it took us until December 11th to reach case number 500. In slightly more than one month, another 500 Calabasas residents have been diagnosed with COVID. We can’t say it enough: Please follow all safety protocols, including mask guidelines and social distancing rules.
The vaccines made by Pfizer, Moderna, and others that are still in the pipeline will be a huge help. Vaccinating 11 million County residents is no small task, and there have been the expected problems with vaccine supplies. Critical healthcare workers have been first in line. Those 65 and older can receive the vaccine, too. The County’s web site, www.vaccinatelacounty.com has the details and ways to make an appointment. The County web site is tied to the State’s web site, which crashed earlier this week under the huge demand but is back on-line now. We continue to work toward hosting a local vaccination site and hope to have favorable news to convey shortly.
Being indoors much of the day due to COVID does not mean you can’t keep your mind active. Our Community Services Department has a full slate of virtual classes you can take. Nearly 1,700 people are currently enrolled in on-line courses for our winter session. For more information, go to https://bit.ly/3o79cBR on the City’s web site and learn all about our class offerings.
At next week’s City Council meeting, we will be rounding out our appointments to the various City Commissions. Even if you have not been appointed to a City Commission, there are many opportunities for you to volunteer whatever spare time you have to our Commissions’ works. We also have in place our Mayor’s Youth Council for 2021. Young people from 14 to 21 in Calabasas who are interested in participating with their peers to shape civic engagement can volunteer for any one of a number of projects. To explore these and other volunteer opportunities, please visit www.cityofcalabasas.com/government/commissions for more information.
Have a great weekend.
