Sweltering Heat Wave Brings Triple Digits To Calabasas

CALABASAS, CA — The National Weather Service Wednesday issued an excessive heat watch, warning of "dangerously hot conditions" and elevated critical fire-weather between Friday and Monday during the region's latest heat wave.

Calabasas is expected to have highs of 101 Thursday, 107 Friday, 108 Saturday, and 106 Sunday. Temperatures are expected to remain in the triple digits until next Wednesday.

"Extreme heat will significantly increase the potential for heat related illnesses, particularly for those working or participating in outdoor activities," the weather service warned in announcing the excessive heat watch, which will be in effect from Friday morning through Monday evening.
It said the "dangerously hot conditions" would include highs of 108 degrees in some L.A. County valley areas.

The heat watch will cover all of L.A. County, including the Antelope Valley, which is often excluded from such warnings because high heat is common there, and inland Orange County.

During the heat wave, the night will not provide much relief because temperatures will remain in the 70s and 80s, according to the NWS.

"Extreme heat will significantly increase the potential for heat- related illnesses, particularly for those working or participating in outdoor activities," warned the NWS.

"Be prepared to drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors. Take extra precautions if you work or spend time outside.

The weather service also stressed that "young children and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles under any circumstances. This is especially true during warm or hot weather, when car interiors can reach lethal temperatures in a matter of minutes." The warning also applies to seniors.
