Temporary Dog Park Opens In Calabasas
Furry friends rushed in to the opening of the Wild Walnut Temporary Dog Park on Sep. 4.

CALABASAS, CA — Finally, a bit of good news: there’s a new dog temporary dog park in Calabasas.
On Sept. 4, the Wild Walnut Temporary Dog Park opened on a formerly open stretch of Wild Walnut Park on Mullholland Highway and Old Topanga Canyon Road. The third-of-an acre features separate areas for large dogs and small dogs, as well as a temporary restroom.
Calabasans, especially in the east side of town, have long been advocating for a second dog park. According to Community Services Director Jeff Rubin, the City Council approved adding a dog park, a children’s play area, and redoing the parking lot about a year ago.

Rubin said that the bids for that project were initially too high, so the council rejected them, and is waiting for more state and county money to complete it. In the meantime, they authorized a temporary park that Rubin says he hopes will become permanent.
According to Deputy Director of Community Services Marty Hall, the temporary park cost $55,000 and took about six weeks to complete.

“We’re so excited that this is finally happening, and this is a great opportunity for people and their pets to get out in a safe environment in our community and as you can tell, it’s already very popular,” said Mayor Alicia Weintraub at the park’s crowded opening on the fourth.
