Tucked in back of the Malibu/Lost Hills Sheriff Station is a full-service slammer with a total capacity of 41. Housing a hall of felony, misdemeanor and detox cells, this jail has staged mug shots for the likes of Mel Gibson, Nick Nolte and the most frightening of them all, Gary Busey.Â
The Sheriff's Posse
Ever spot a pack of horses galloping around Agoura Hills on Halloween? Or any other day, for that matter? That would be the Sheriff's Mounted Posse. Made up of trained riders, the posse assists with searches in areas not accessible by motor vehicles and patrols parks, riverbeds, shopping center parking lots and rural mountain areas.Â

The Malibu/Lost Hills Sheriff Station is home to a number of notable officers--reserve deputy Greg Smorodinsky being the most recent. Smorodinsky received the best overall Top Gun award in the statewide law enforcement shooting competition this month.Â
Strength in Numbers
Seventeen thousand. Said another way: 17,000. That's how many hours the Malibu Search and Rescue Team contributes to the safety and well-being of the area in a year. In addition to the Academy, volunteers and reserve deputies undergo extensive mountaineering training and are required to live within 20 minutes' response time from the station.
