Betternest, a Home Organization Startup, Wins $10K Grant

Betternest was the recent recipient of a $10,000 grant from the Rutgers University pre-accelerator Black & Latinx Tech Initiative.

Dewan Farhana, the CEO and founder of San Jose-based technology startup Betternest, was the recent recipient of a $10,000 grant from the Rutgers University pre-accelerator Black & Latinx Tech Initiative (BLT) program in Newark, NJ. The grant was awarded at a recent BLT Demo Day event that consisted of education sessions, mentoring from Rutgers faculty members, and presentations by the participating entrepreneurs for prospective investors.

“BLT has been an amazing experience for us,” says Farhana, who is a graduate of Rutgers University and Touro College of Medicine. “We were very fortunate to have Rutgers Business School professors and advisors help us position Betternest for success. These industry experts will continue to advise us, provide us with resources, and cheer us on as we strive to create an organization that will improve peoples’ productivity and quality of life.”

Betternest, which was launched in January ‘19, is the first and only online platform and SaaS that helps consumers across the country to achieve their home organization goals by matching them with qualified service providers. Along with serving the market of home organization professionals and end users, Betternest also connects organizing consultants with the elderly assisted care market.

“Dewan’s pitch presentation to the Rutgers faculty and angel investors was polished, convincing, and very impressive,” says Lyneir Richardson, Executive Director of the Rutgers Center for Urban Entrepreneurship and Economic Development, which operates and oversees BLT. “She was one of three winners of $10,000 accelerator grants, and she was competing against a number of talented entrepreneurs from across the country who were selected for the BLT cohort. We expect that she will attract additional investment for Betternest as she continues to refine her business model, deliver business opportunities for home organization professionals, and help her users to quickly and easily achieve their home organization goals.”
