Union Avenue Reopens After Campbell Crash Snaps Power Pole

PG&E went to the scene to restore power to area residents and work to replace a damaged pole snapped in two by a driver accused of DUI.

CAMPBELL, CA — Pacific Gas and Electric responded to the scene to restore power after a late-night Wednesday night crash closed Union Avenue in Campbell between Bascom Avenue and State Route 17 and resulted in one man's arrest and a power outage that left hundreds in the dark.

The power has been restored and the roadway has since reopened.

A 25-year-old San Jose man identified as Christian Scott was taken into custody on suspicion of driving under the influence regarding the incident called in at 11:44 p.m., Campbell Police Department Capt. Joe Cefalu told Patch.

About 24 hours later on Thursday, PG&E was still working on restoring power to customers once numbering more than 800 at one point.

Campbell Police had opened up more of Union Avenue to motorists Thursday afternoon. By the evening, officers cleared the way for most of the street except one block area from Campbell Avenue to Duncanville Court for most of the evening.
