Fiery Crash Kills 1, Injures Another: CHP

SAN JOSE, CA — One of two problem areas reported Thursday, a fatal crash with injuries closed the northbound side of U.S. Highway 101 south of State Route 85 in San Jose early Thursday, the California Highway Patrol indicated. It has since cleared — but not before killing one and injuring another in the fiery crash that involved four vehicles.

The identity of the man who died traveling in the 2011 BMW is undisclosed. Two other men identified as Jackson Rodriquez, 23, of Gilroy, traveling in the 2015 Ford; and Jose Rodriquez, 26, of Gilroy, traveling in the 2017 Subaru were taken to San Jose Regional Medical Center. The driver in the 2017 Toyota, Jesus Alvarez, Jr., 35, of Salinas and Scott Alah, 54, of Hollister, who was traveling in the 2019 Toyota, were also involved but not transported.

Another crash on northbound SR-85 occurred about an hour later, leaving debris in the road south of Santa Teresa Boulevard that's blocking the left lane.
