Downtown San Jose Bar's Alcohol License Suspended

Myth Taverna & Lounge, where authorities say a patron died after being assaulted by an employee, cannot serve alcohol for at least 40 days.

SANTA CLARA VALLEY, CA — The Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control suspended the alcoholic beverage license of Myth Taverna & Lounge in downtown San Jose on Thursday. The restaurant and lounge located at 152 Post Street had their license suspended for 40 days and indefinitely thereafter until the licensed premises is compliant with ABC regulations.

The suspension is a result of two investigations done by ABC and the San Jose police that revealed several infractions of conditions required by Myth's license. These infractions included the business not operating as a restaurant as their license permitted, a noise violation and a "disorderly house" incident where an employee assaulted a patron, which resulted in the patron's death.

That employee served eight months for involuntary manslaughter.

The license is placed on probation once the establishment earns it back for the following two years. If any similar violations occur, ABC has the authority to revoke the license for good.
