Woman, 30, Killed In Wrong-Way Campbell Crash On Highway 17

The crash, first reported at 3:18 a.m., forced the closure of northbound Highway 17 lanes for about two hours.

CAMPBELL, CA — A 30-year-old woman died in a wrong-way crash early Friday on state Highway 17 in Campbell near the San Jose border, according to the California Highway Patrol.

About 3:21 a.m., authorities received reports that a Honda Accord was headed south in the northbound lanes of Interstate Highway 880 near U.S. Highway 101, the CHP said.

The Honda eventually collided with a Toyota Avalon on Highway 17 north of Hamilton Avenue.

CHP officers responding to the wreck found the Toyota in the center median, and the Honda Accord on the right shoulder. The woman in the Honda was unresponsive and the Toyota's driver, a 62-year-old man, had broken bones and cuts to his face.

He was taken to a hospital for treatment, the CHP said.

The driver of the Honda was pronounced dead at the scene.

Lanes were closed for the investigation and reopened about 5:30 a.m., the CHP said.

It has not been determined whether alcohol was a factor in the crash and the incident is under investigation.
