Inmate Dies In Santa Clara County Sheriff's Custody
The 32-year-old man's death does not appear related to COVID-19, officials said.
SANTA CLARA COUNTY, CA — There are no signs that foul play or novel coronavirus are involved in the death of an inmate found unresponsive in his cell Sunday at the Elmwood Correctional Facility in Milpitas, the Santa Clara County Office of the Sheriff said Friday.
The 32-year-old man had been booked into custody by the San Jose Police Department Sunday on numerous sexual assault charges. At about 5:30 p.m. deputies found him unresponsive and performed CPR and other steps to revive him.
The Milpitas Fire Department and paramedics arrived about 5:49 p.m. and took him to an area hospital, where the man remained under care until he was pronounced dead on Tuesday.
