SAN JOSE, CA — San Jose firefighters stomped on a three-alarm house fire in the East San Jose foothills on Tuesday afternoon.

The fire was reported at 12:34 p.m. at 14988 McVay Ave. One home sustained damage to one third of the property as the fire burned to within inches of the second home in addition to vegetation covering about an acre, according to Fire Capt. Mitch Matlow.

The cause of the fire appears to be downed electrical wires, Matlow said. The two homes were evacuated safely, but one firefighter suffered from heat-related exhaustion.
