Silicon Valley Classic Tennis Tourney Crowns Winner From China

Zheng Saisai of China won her first WTA title on Sunday when she defeated Aryna Sabalenka of Belarus 6-3, 7-6 (7-3) at the SJ State tourney.

SAN JOSE, CA — Zheng Saisai of China won her first WTA title on Sunday when she defeated Aryna Sabalenka of Belarus 6-3, 7-6 (7-3) at the Mubadala Silicon Valley Classic.

The weeklong tournament played at San Jose State University came to a close Aug. 4 with the 25-year-old champion rising to No. 38 in the world.

Zheng partnered with Liang En-Shuo of Taiwan in doubles. They lost 4-6, 6-4, 3-10 in the semifinals to No. 1 seeds Nicole Melichar and Kveta Peschke. Melichar and Peschke won the tournament by beating Shuko Aoyama and Ena Shibahara, 6-4, 6-4.

San Jose State is under contract to host the tournament for three more years, with Aug. 3-9 being the dates for 2020.
