GILROY, CA — A popular Gilroy gym has shuttered and is holding an liquidation sale that’s open to the public.

Gilroy Family Fitness announced its closure Saturday on its Facebook page.

The statement doesn't say why the gym is closing but the fitness center industry has been devastated by the coronavirus crisis and faces an uncertain future.

At least seven fitness and sporting good companies have folded in recent months, Business Insider reports.

“Over the past 10 years we have provided the best fitness center in Gilroy. As difficult as the decision is to close, we will be permanently shutting our doors,” GFF said in a statement addressed to members.

“We want to thank you all for your support and for being a part of the GFF family.”

Members on month-to-month plans who paid dues ahead will be refunded within five to 10 business days, and paid-in-full members will receive a refund check that will be sent to the last address the gym has on file, the fitness center said.

The gym’s liquidation sale is expected to run through Sunday.
