Woman Fatally Struck By Caltrain, Prompting Delays

Caltrain called in for bus assistance, as rail traffic was stalled for at least an hour from the South San Jose incident.

SAN JOSE, CA — A woman was fatally struck by Caltrain on the tracks near the Capitol Station in South San Jose Wednesday morning, prompting hour-long delays and bringing in Valley Transportation Authority bus service, Caltrain reported.

Caltrain car No. 227 services stops from the Capitol to College Park stations.

The northbound train hit the woman on the tracks at 7:40 a.m. and started to roll again to the Capitol station an hour later. About that time, a VTA bus arrived on the scene to transport passengers stuck on the train. More than 300 travelers were on board, but no injuries were reported.

All trains in the area were stopped to investigate the incident.

The Santa Clara County Coroner was brought to the scene at 9:20 a.m.

This is Caltrain’s sixth fatality of 2019.
