SAN JOSE, CA — A fire was quickly extinguished Wednesday evening in a vehicle wrecking yard in San Jose, a fire captain said.

The fire was reported at 5:29 p.m. at a yard at Monterey Road and Phelan Avenue, fire Capt. Mitch Matlow said. Flames scorched six vehicles in the yard. No other vehicles were damaged and no one was injured.

Matlow said firefighters did an excellent job of stopping the fire. He said wrecking yard fires can be hard to contain and Wednesday evening firefighters prevented a much bigger problem.
