2 Arrested After Officers Link False 911 Call To DUI Stop

Authorities said the passenger in the SUV called to report a shooting to distract the officers from the DUI stop.

CAPITOLA, CA — California Highway Patrol officers arrested two men Saturday in Capitola - one for allegedly driving while drunk and the other for allegedly placing a fake 911 call to divert officers.

Around 2 p.m., officers stopped a Cadillac Escalade near Opal Cliff and Court drives after the SUV's driver allegedly ran several stop signs, weaving in and out of traffic at a high rate of speed, CHP officials said. The officer then noticed that the driver appeared intoxicated.

During this time, Santa Cruz County sheriff's deputies learned about a report of a shooting and a person possibly injured. Officers later learned that the 911 call about a shooting had been placed by the Cadillac's passenger in an attempt to distract officers from the alleged drunk driving investigation.
