CA Secretary Of State Unveils Pot PSA Featuring Cheech Marin

Comedian and marijuana enthusiast is the star of a public service announcement as the state prepares for the legal use of the drug.

CALIFORNIA -- California's Secretary of State recruited a marijuana-loving comedian to help promote a government website aimed at helping people open a cannabis business. With the help of Cheech Marin, Secretary of State Alex Padilla on Monday announced the launch of cannabizfile.sos.ca.gov.

In the video, Marin portrays a government worker telling a woman she can get information about obtaining her business license on the website. It also features Padilla.

The website provides all relevant information pertaining to opening a marijuana business. People can also search for business records or register a trademark.

The website comes as California prepares for Jan. 1, when the recreational use of marijuana becomes legal.

Marin is a part of the comedy act, Cheech & Chong, who openly speak about their love for marijuana. They gained wide popularity in the 1970s.
