Capitola Police Chief Seeks To Ban Gun Shows, Start Gun-Buyback Program

The debate over stricter gun regulation has been a contentious topic around the U.S. – and now in Capitola.
Police Chief Rudy Escalante is seeking to ban gun shows, and start a gun-buyback program, he announced at a Capitola City Council meeting on Wednesday night, the Santa Cruz Sentinel reported.
Escalante said that no gun show has occurred or been requested in Capitola.

Currently anyone can turn in a firearm free of charge to the police department to be destroyed, and the department provides free gun-locking devices upon request.
For the gun-buyback or turn-in, Escalante said he would work with local faith communities and nonprofits, although the discussions are still in the beginning stages.Â
