Capitola-Based Market Spreads Its Roots

Scott Roseman had a simple enough idea when he founded New Leaf Community Markets 28 years ago: to bring a variety of good food to the community. It made sense somehow, with fields of artichokes, strawberries and garlic growing a short distance from the original Capitola store.

New Leaf now has eight stores after branching out into a new community, Pleasanton. Co-owners Roseman and Rex Stewart cut the ribbon at the official unveiling of the new store Wednesday at the Vintage Hills Shopping Center.

The market group promises fresh, locally grown, organic produce as well as natural and organic meats and sustainable seafood.

“We are very excited that opening day is finally here,” Roseman said. “We have been looking forward to being a part of this great community for many months.” Pleasanton Councilwoman Chery Cook-Kallio remarked, “I am delighted to see this community-minded, neighborhood market locate in Pleasanton. New Leaf Community Markets has an emphasis on organics and sustainability. It is an excellent fit for the center and the nearby neighborhoods.”
