Dr. Christine Levan, who led the opening of Kaiser Permanente medical care in Santa Cruz County in 2017, has accepted a strategic leadership role at The Permanente Medical Group in Oakland. Since 2017, Dr. MacLean has served as the Assistant Physician in Charge for Santa Cruz County, overseeing the Kaiser Permanente Watsonville Medical office among other responsibilities.

“I’m honored to take over this important leadership role,” said Dr. Maclean, a resident of Santa Cruz County. “I’m looking forward to continuing Kaiser Permanente’s excellence in caring for the health of our members and improving the health and safety of Santa Cruz County.”

Dr. MacLean has been a Kaiser Permanente physician for 26 years and was honored by his peers at the San Jose Medical Center as the Physician of the Year in 2009. He has served as the Chief of Head and Neck Surgery at KP San Jose, and in Santa Cruz County Dr. MacLean has overseen specialty care, outside medical services, and Kaiser Permanente services at Watsonville Community Hospital.

He is also active in the community: Dr. Maclean is a member of the Pajaro Valley Chamber of Commerce and Agriculture Board of Directors, and he is always one of the first KP Santa Cruz County Area physicians to sign up and participate in community events: for example, he helped construct a new greenhouse for the student garden at Live Oak Elementary School, and he was among those planting native greenery on the River Walk for the Martin Luther King, Junior, Day of Volunteerism.
