New Deli Opens in Soquel

Supervisor John Leopold at Café a Roma Grand Opening.

SOQUEL, CA — "Café a Roma" is Italian for "Café in Rome." It is also a homonym for "Café Aroma" a new deli in downtown Soquel. (Where D'Anna's Deli was located, 2841 Porter Street, Suite B) The owners use both spellings.

Saturday, January 29, was the grand opening. There was free orange juice and sweet tea and lots of snacks. Supervisor John Leopold (first district) was on hand to welcome the new business to Soquel and participate in the ribbon cutting that started the grand opening celebration.

The deli has been open for three weeks, and the customers are enjoying the food and service. Especially those who take advantage of the weekday opening time of 6am. The deli also sells chilled sandwiches to save for lunch.

Run by the Petruzzi family, the food is made fresh, even the croissants. The desserts change frequently, with a standard variety of sandwiches and foods. Coffee and tea is available in many varieties. They make Italian sodas and have the American brands in a can. (They are currently the only eatery in Soquel serving diet Dr Pepper.) The family is proud of their Italian way of cooking.

The deli has a good start. They are getting good reviews on Yelp, and the facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/cafeaRoma1) is starting to get a lot of follows and likes.
