OMG! Aptos Church Gives Away Over $1 Million

Twin Lakes Church in Aptos donated over $500,000 outside the U.S., funding orphanages, children's homes and vocational training centers.

APTOS – A big church in a small town gave over one million dollars in 2015 to outside agencies conducting philanthropic work and scholarships for camp and school.

Twin Lakes Church in Aptos gave away $1,010,011.02 in 2015, according to the Aptos Times. The Times say the financial information will be included in the annual report to be distributed Sunday February 21 at the congregation’s annual meeting.

“For our congregation’s 125th birthday year in 2015, we had the idea of giving away one million dollars toward meeting local and global needs,” senior pastor René Schlaepfer told the paper.

The Times says over half of the money went outside the United States, funding orphanages, children’s homes, vocational training centers, and churches throughout Africa and India.

  • Refugee fund $42,950
  • Camp scholarships $72,102
  • School scholarships $102,500
  • Community gifts (125th Anniversary Giving: Jacob’s Heart, Siena House, Red Cross, Freedom Women’s Center, etc.) $20,000
