Rain A-Comin' This Weekend, Capitola and Soquel!

BAY AREA, CA – Roads will be slick on Sunday in the San Francisco and Monterey Bay areas as the first rain of the rainy season falls that day, officials with the National Weather Service said.

Rain and cool temperatures are expected early Sunday in the North Bay with rain moving through the rest of the region later in the day.

Rain will be light in most areas, but motorists should be especially careful, as oil has built up on roadways.

"Roads are going to be extremely slippery," National Weather Service forecaster Bob Benjamin said. "Sometimes those roads can be as slick as ice."

Most of both Bay areas will receive less than half an inch of rain, but parts of the North Bay could see upwards of half an inch, according to the National Weather Service.

The chance of rain will extend through Tuesday, Benjamin said.

Secondary to the slick roads, cold, dry air will head into the area Friday bringing gusty winds and with them an increased risk of wildfires, weather service officials said.

West to northwest winds will gust anywhere from 20 to 36 mph starting Friday evening through Friday night before they die down late Friday.

On Saturday winds will be more normal at 5 to 15 mph.
