1156 High Street, Santa Cruz (Turn right at the Arboretum sign -- between the Main and the West UC Santa Cruz campus entrances.)

Since taking over as Live Oak Elementary School’s garden teacher four years ago, Leigh Klein has worked tirelessly to bring community supporters together and restore one of the original Life Lab gardens in Santa Cruz. To further her goals, in 2013 Leigh partnered with Alrie Middlebrook’s California Native Garden Foundation. CNGF contributed a comprehensive design by garden designer Linda Roy, as well as plants and labor. In addition to California native plants, the design includes berry vines, fruit trees, and raised beds for veggies, as well as composting and water conservation features.
