Veterans Day is November 11. In 2018 this will be a Sunday. In keeping with tradition, Monday, November 12, will be the celebration of Veterans Day. Many federal, state, county and city services will be closed Monday November 12. This will include most mail service (there may be a few rare exceptions), Post Offices will be closed, libraries will be closed, city and county offices will be closed. The Veterans Affairs clinics will be closed, but the Veterans Affairs Hospital (in Palo Alto) is open for emergencies. The Veterans Affairs Clinic at 80 Great Oaks Blvd., San Jose, will also close for good on Thanksgiving. It will reopen at 5855 Silver Creek Valley Place, in San Jose. (About 4 miles away from the current location.)
Each year, a few businesses have discounts for veterans and active service members in honor of Veterans Day. Though not all have chosen the same day. If not in uniform, most restaurants need to see some type of military identification. For veterans, your V.A. card is acceptable. Remember that not all locations will honor the discount. It wound be prudent if you call to ask about a discount, before visiting.
