Awards Abound for Carlsbad High's Show Choirs at the Hart Encore Competition
Sound Express Wins First place, Musicianship and Showmanship. Encore Wins Second Place and Musicianship.
Castaic, CA – Carlsbad High School’s two show choirs brought home top honors at their toughest (and farthest) competition to date, Hart High School’s 'Encore 2016' held March 11 & 12.
It was a vocal and visual extravaganza in the Advanced Mixed AA Division as seven show choirs brought their “AA” game to the stage.
Carlsbad’s Sound Express faced new competition from Diamond Bar and Mt. Eden High Schools in addition to rematches with competitors Chula Vista, Glendora, Cypress, and Serrano High Schools.

In a nail-biting finish, Sound Express swept the competition taking home the first place trophy and honors for showmanship and musicianship.
Their 20-minute set focuses on a reporter whose choice to “get the story” instead of helping the victim of a crime has unforeseen consequences.

The competition was equally fierce in the Intermediate Women’s Division.
Carlsbad’s Encore faced former and first time competitors from Bonita Vista, Cypress, Diamond Bar, Los Alamitos, and Serrano High Schools.
Last week Encore swept this division with Los Alamitos taking second place.
This week it was Encore who came in second with Los Alamitos winning by three points. In additional to second place, the ladies of Encore received top honors for their musicianship. The theme of Encore’s 15-minute set is empowering women and embracing possibilities.
“Both choirs worked and performed as hard as they could, giving their best performances of the year.
"I could not be more proud.” shared CHS Choral Director, Jessie Bullock.
“I am elated that both Encore and Sound Express took the musicianship award in their divisions, especially considering some groups had 20 more performers on stage than we did," Bullock added.
"That really shows me that we have a quality vocal sound over quantity of performers.
"Each of our groups has improved so much so quickly this season. They have been very motivated to better themselves and do better each week. I could not be happier with the way this competition season is playing out.”
