CARLSBAD, CA — Police arrested a man suspected of driving drunk Sunday after he allegedly struck and seriously hurt a bicyclist, then fled the scene.

The collision happened about 10:40 a.m. on Circulo Sequoia, just northeast of La Costa Canyon High School, Carlsbad police reported.

The bicyclist, a 65-year-old woman from Arizona, was unconscious when police and paramedics arrived. She was transported to a hospital for treatment of serious injuries, police said.

Using a helicopter and several deputies and officers, the black Cadillac that hit her was found a short distance away from the accident, police said.

Officers arrested the hit-and-run suspect, who was booked into jail on suspicion of driving under the influence and hit-and-run, police said.
