Bryan Snyder announces the Alley Art Wall fundraising campaign
Artist Bryan Snyder hopes to establish Carlsbad's largest collaboration mural and first Recreation Mural Space for the youth
Bryan Snyder’s newest project titled the Alley Art Wall will bring 10–12 artists to paint a large-scale permanent mural on the west-facing wall of Ground Up Cafe on Grand Avenue in the Carlsbad Village. Each invited artist has already painted a mural on the Carlsbad Art Wall, a rotating mural wall that changes art every two months. This would be the first time the artists have returned to Carlsbad.
“The Carlsbad Art Wall has been an incredible success,” Snyder said. “But the one thing I hear from the community is that they wish the artists could return to Carlsbad and paint a permanent mural. I can’t think of any better way to bring them back together—on one giant wall!”
In addition to the mural collaboration, Snyder will designate a portion of the wall as Carlsbad’s first recreational mural space where aspiring muralists will have the opportunity to practice technique, explore styles and experiment with new materials. This section will constantly rotate as the goal is to provide a space for the community to gain and improve mural skills.

“Carlsbad has ball fields, swimming pools and other community recreation facilities, but where do the youth go who have interest in learning to paint murals?” Snyder said. “I am contacted weekly by both kids and adults looking for opportunities to learn to paint murals. I’ve identified a void in our community and I think this project can provide the opportunity to fill it.”
According to Snyder, the development of this project has been in the works for five years, but really kicked into gear when a space some artists used to practice painting called “The Pit” was demolished and replaced with an upcoming City park.

“Large-scale mural painting is one of art history's oldest, and today, most popular forms of art. Professional artists travel the globe painting mural festivals. It’s supported by governments all around the world. The youth see this in the streets and follow it on social media,” Snyder said. “Let’s nurture their interest and potentially introduce them to a life-long passion for murals, entrepreneurship and art-making.”
Snyder has partnered with the Boys & Girls Clubs of Carlsbad Village Clubhouse and is hopeful that this project will be implemented into the community. The Boys & Girls Club is already looking at including it into its programming, but understands that the project expenses first have to be raised.
“We are excited to collaborate and partner with the Alley Art Wall project and bring together artists, youth and the community to engage in a fun and interactive art experience,” said Boys and Girls Clubhouse Director of Operations Abby Snyder.
The fundraising campaign is now underway hoping to raise $10k which will cover 10–12 artist fees, wall preparation, donor recognition plaques, project signage and other miscellaneous fees. All tax-deductible in-kind donations will be made out to the Boys and Girls Clubs of Carlsbad.
