Carlsbad Announces 2017 Juried Biennial Artists

CARLSBAD, CA – Carlsbad’s Cultural Arts Office recently announced the nearly three dozen artists that will be featured in the 2017 Juried Biennial exhibit from Jan. 22 through March 5, 2017 at William D. Cannon Art Gallery.

Cannon Art Gallery’s Juried Biennial exhibitions have showcased the work of both emerging and mid-career artists in San Diego County for the past 18 years.

This year's exhibit features 44 art pieces by 35 artists. The city accepted submissions from artists 18 years of age and older, who live, work or have a studio in San Diego County. Of the selected artists, 15 are from North County, including four from Carlsbad.

This year’s jurors were Yevgeniya Mikhailik and Ginger Shulick Porcella. Mikhailik is an artist and curator of the Irvine Fine Arts Center. Shulick is the executive director of the San Diego Art Institute. In addition to selecting artists in the Biennial, the jurors will award a total of $2,000 in cash prizes at the opening reception.

The Carlsbad Friends of the Arts will host the opening reception from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 21 at Cannon Art Gallery, located at 1775 Dove Lane in Carlsbad.
