Carlsbad City Council Election: 3 Compete For Vacant Seat

The special election was added to the March 3 primary ballot to fill the vacancy created when former Councilwoman Barbara Hamilton resigned.

CARLSBAD, CA — Carlsbad's District 1 residents will get to choose Tuesday which candidate they want to represent them on the City Council.

The special election was added to the March 3 primary ballot to fill the vacancy created when former Councilwoman Barbara Hamilton resigned in October. The term expires in November 2022.

There are three candidates on the ballot:

  • Cori Schumacher - current councilwoman who has held an at-large council seat since 2016
  • Simon Angel - lifelong resident and retired AT&T technician, installer and repairman
  • Tracy Carmichael - former Carlsbad Unified School District trustee
