Carlsbad Council Approves $100 Million Mall Renovation
It is hoped that the project will break ground in August with a completion date of Fall 2014, according to the paper.

The Carlsbad City Council on Tuesday night approved a proposed $100 renovation plan to upgrade Westfield Plaza El Camino Real shopping center.Â
U-T San Diego reports that the name of the plaza will also officially change to Westfield Carlsbad.Â
New to the mall will be a Regal Cinemas movie theatre, which will replace the four-screen Moviemax Theater, and a 24 Hour Fitness. Other upgrades, according to the paper, include "new landscaping, sprucing up the interior floors and ceilings elsewhere in the mall, and requiring tenants to upgrade their individual storefronts inside the mall."
It is the first significant renovation of the mall since 1979. It is hoped that the project will break ground in August with a completion date of Fall 2014, according to the paper.Â
