Tournament winners, Jeff Brandt, Chris Freeman, Tyler Lyons, and Michael Mehran played on behalf of the CHS Choral Booster.
March 26, 2015, Cy Young winner, Randy Jones, came to Carlsbad High School to present trophies to the winners of the 2nd Annual Randy Jones Invitational golf tournament and to present a check for $10,000 to the CHS Choral Boosters.
The ceremony opened with Encore, Carlsbad High School’s intermediate women’s choir, singing an a capella ballad, “Vienna Waits for You.” Choral director, Mr. Jessie Bullock, introduced Mr. Jones who talked about his unique invitational golf tournament.
This one-of-a-kind tournament promotes and rewards participation in charity golf tournaments throughout San Diego County. It is an invitation only event and has become the largest amateur team championship in the country. In order to be invited, teams must finish in 1st, 2nd or 3rd place in one of the many charity golf tournaments held throughout the county.

Mr. Jones presented them with individual trophies and the Perpetual Trophy that will sit in the San Diego Hall of Champions at Balboa Park.
The golfers then presented the $10,000 check to CHS Choral Boosters’ co-president, Deborah Dodaro, who graciously accepted it amongst cheers from the 60 plus choir students on hand for the event.
The evening closed with Sound Express, Carlsbad High School’s advance mixed choir singing their ballad “Eat/The Call.” Student representatives presented the golfers and Mr. Jones with framed “thank you” letters signed by each choirs’ presidents.
This generous and unexpected donation comes at a critical time for the CHS choirs as current fundraising efforts have fallen short of years past. This contribution means so much to all of the students in Carlsbad High School’s Vocal Music Program.
The parents and choir students in attendance were full of gratitude and appreciation for the golfers and Mr. Jones. The 4th Annual CHS Choral Boosters Golf Tournament will be held on September 13, 2015, at the Crossing at Carlsbad. The winners of this tournament will be invited to play in the Randy Jones tournament in early 2016.
The Carlsbad Choral Boosters are a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization (tax ID 30-0208051) dedicated to supporting the students in Carlsbad High School’s Vocal Music Program.
