Carlsbad High Choir Takes Top Honors at 'Xtravaganza' Competition
CHS Choirs also took Best Showmanship and Best Performer honors at the Los Alamitos Xtravaganza Competition.
“Xtravaganza” is a three-day, 10-division show choir competition hosted by Los Alamitos High School in Orange County.
Choirs throughout California and as far away as Arizona competed in this event.
Carlsbad High School’s Encore took first place in the women’s intermediate show choir division on March 20, 2015. Encore also received accolades for Best Showmanship and Best Musicianship in this division.

Carlsbad High School freshman, Kaylen Lash, won the title of Best Performer in the group. Encore faced strong competition from Hart, Eastlake, and Esperanza High Schools, but Encore came out on top with their “Little Red Riding Hood” set - an entertaining take on the classic story featuring Broadway songs and pop tunes.
In the advanced mixed show choir division on March 21, 2015, Carlsbad High School’s Sound Express received Best Showmanship, Best Costumes, and Best Tech Crew honors.

CHS senior, Max DeLoach, was also named Best Performer in the group. Sound Express came in second place, missing first place by half a point to Mt. Eden High School of Hayward, CA. Paramount and Horizon High Schools also competed in this division. Sound Express’s set, “A Life Well Lived,” tells the story of a teacher and the impact he has on the lives of his students.
Xtravaganza was the third competition of this season. There are two more competitions remaining: Burroughs Music Showcase on April 11, 2015 and the Southern California Show Choir Invitational on April 18, 2015.
The public will be able to enjoy performances from all Carlsbad High School choirs at the 2015 Pop Show. The Pop Show will be held on May 28, 29, and 30, at the Carlsbad Cultural Arts Center.
The CHS Vocal Music Program is made up of four choirs under the direction of Mr. Jessie Bullock: Chamber Singers (advanced mixed choir), Sound Express (advanced mixed show choir), Encore (intermediate women’s show choir), and Lancer Choir (beginning mixed choir).
