Fresh Start Surgical Gifts, a Carlsbad nonprofit, hosted its 23rd Annual Celebrity Golf Classic on March 8-9, 2015 at Morgan Run Club & Resort and met its fundraising goal of $130,000. Donations from sponsors and over 160 attendees will fund Fresh Start’s medical program that benefits the nonprofit’s mission to transform the lives of disadvantaged infants, children and teens with physical deformities caused by birth defects, accidents, abuse, or disease through the gift of reconstructive surgery and related healthcare services.
“Since 1991, Fresh Start has provided over $28 million dollars worth of donated medical services,” said Fresh Start CEO & Executive Director Shari Brasher. “All donations from our 23rd Annual Celebrity Golf Classic will help cover costs for our ongoing Surgery Weekends and Dental Clinics throughout the year.”
EDCO Vice President John Snyder played in the golf tournament and represented his organization that served as the event’s title sponsor. Celebrities and professional athletes in attendance included Alfonso Ribeiro, who hosted the event, Marcus Allen, Tim Brown, James Lofton, David Justice, Jermaine Dye, Andre Reed, Sterling Sharpe, and Marshall Faulk.
The golf tournament kicked off on Sunday with a dinner party, including cocktails and live/silent auctions. On Monday each participating foursome was paired with a Hollywood celebrity or professional athlete.
