Coco Vandeweghe Leads San Diego Aviators To Victory At La Costa In Carlsbad

CARLSBAD, CA – Coco Vandeweghe won all three of her sets, breaking a tie with the final victory, as the San Diego Aviators defeated the Orange County Breakers, 22-19, Tuesday evening at the Omni La Costa Resort & Spa in Carlsbad.
The Aviators (5-3) tied the World TeamTennis match, 17-17, on Vandeweghe's 5-4 victory over Yanina Wickmayer, in the fourth set, women's singles.
Vandeweghe and Raven Klaasen then defeated Ken Skupski and Andreja Klepac, 5-2, in the final set, mixed doubles, for their second victory over the Breakers (4-4) in two nights, giving them the undisputed league lead.

Vandeweghe and Shelby Rogers defeated Klepac and Wickmayer, 5-3, in the match's second set, women's doubles.
Vandeweghe was playing for the Aviators for likely the only time this season. The Rancho Santa Fe resident reached the women's singles quarterfinals of Wimbledon this month and the semifinals of the Australian Open in January. She is 23rd in the Women's Tennis Association singles rankings.

The Aviator men lost both their sets. Rajeev Ram and Klaasen lost to Teymuraz Gabashvili and Skupski, 5-4, in the opening set, men's doubles. Ram lost to Gabashvili, 5-3, in men's singles, the third set.
The Aviators will begin a four-match road trip Thursday at Springfield. Their next home match will be Aug. 1 against the Philadelphia Freedoms.
