CUSD's Copa de Carlsbad Thrills Fans

Carlsbad Unified's Elementary School Soccer Tournament is held at Sage Creek High School

Sage Creek High School hosted the Copa de Carlsbad, CUSD’s Elementary School Soccer Tournament on Thursday, on November 19. Boys’ and girls’ teams from all nine elementary schools competed to win the 2015 Copa de Carlsbad championship title. CUSD principals, teachers, staff, parents, grandparents, siblings, and friends were cheering loudly on the sidelines.

The top four seeded boys’ teams from bracket play were Jefferson, Hope, Magnolia, and Poinsettia. The top four seeded girls’ teams from bracket play were Aviara Oaks, Kelly, Magnolia, and Pacific Rim. The girls’ teams were fierce and played nail-biting games-- they went into penalty kicks in both semi-final games and the final game. For the boys’ division, Magnolia Elementary won the championship title and Poinsettia came in 2nd place. For the girls, Aviara Oaks won the championship title and Kelly came in 2nd place. Great job to all the players and coaches who participated. We look forward to 2016 Copa de Carlsbad!

Thank you to Carlsbad United F.C. for setting up the game fields and goals and Sage Creek High School. And thank you to CUSD’s eight-grade students who did a great job officiating the games.
