Martina Hingis Comes Out of Retirement, Will Play at La Costa Tournament
The former No. 1-ranked player in the world has announced that she will play her first match since 2007 as part of a doubles team with Daniela Hantuchova.

Omni La Costa Resort & Spa in Carlsbad will mark the location of the return to court of one of the all-time greats of professional tennis.
Hall of Famer and five-time grand slam singles winner Martina Hingis has announced that she is coming out of retirement –again – to play doubles.
She will team with Daniela Hantuchova of Slovakia at the Southern California Open July 27-August 4. It will be Hingis's first WTA match since September 2007.
"I am very much looking forward to making a return to competitive play at the Southern California Open," Hingis said in a statement on the WTA website. "My competitive spirit is still very much alive and I love being out on court."
Hingis, 32, won 43 events as a singles player, and 37 events as a doubles player, including nine-grand slam titles.“We are honored to have such a great champion of the game choose to make the Southern California Open her first tournament back on tour,” Alastair Garland, director of the tournament, told the L.A. Times. “Having just been inducted into the Tennis Hall of Fame, it will be a true treat for the fans to enjoy watching Martina play doubles.”

Hingis will be seeking her second doubles title at La Costa, having won in 1997. The former world No. 1 also won singles titles at La Costa in 1997 and 1999.
