Memorial Service and New Details in the Death of Austin Bice

The Carlsbad resident and SDSU student, who was studying abroad, was found dead in a river in Spain. The death has been classified as an accidental drowning.

Austin Bice, 22, will be memorialized in Encinitas at 1 p.m. Sunday at the San Dieguito United Methodist Church at 170 Calle Magdalena. A Facebook event page is set up with more details on the memorial.

Bice's body was  in Madrid, Spain, near where he was an exchange student at the Universidad Carlos III. Friends say in the early hours of Feb. 26 he was turned away from a nightclub for being too drunk and he said that he was walking home, according to City News Service reports.

Police in Spain said Bice was found with his wallet, two cell phones and credit cards in the Manzanares River on March 8, not far from the nightclub. His body was discovered when the water level lowered in the river, according to police, who added that no suspicious marks or bruises were observed.

The death has been classified as an , though results of toxicology tests are still pending.

Bice graduated from Torrey Pines High School before enrolling at SDSU. His resides in Carlsbad.

An Austin Bice Trust has been set up to fund a scholarship in Bice's name. A portion of the trust will be used to aid those who serve or have served in the military. Donations are being accepted through austinbice.com.
