Ofie Escobedo to be Lancer Day Parade Grand Marshall
Escobedo represents the meaning of being a Lancer, according a letter from Associated Student Body Sergeant of Arms Sarah Nirschl.

Ofelia "Ofie" Escobedo, of Lola's 7-Up Market & Deli in the Barrio, has been named Grand Marshal of Carlsbad High School's annual Homecoming Lancer Day Parade Sept. 19.Â
Escobedo represents the meaning of being a Lancer, according a letter from Associated Student Body Sergeant of Arms Sarah Nirschl.Â
"You have been a true leader in our community from beginning the YES program and being involved with the city," she stated. "We appreciate your commitment to shaping the town Carlsbad and for being a role model for our students."Â

Escobedo was instrumental in starting the local Youth Enrichment Services program that helps teenage mothers return to school, according to a candidate information letter she wrote in 2004. Her family arrived to Carlsbad in 1943 and took over the market in 1986 with her sisters.Â
