Restaurant Fire Quickly Contained in Carlsbad

Firefighters made quick work Tuesday of a blaze that erupted inside a closed Carlsbad restaurant.

Flames began spreading across a serving table at West Buffet in the 2500 block of El Camino Real in Carlsbad for unknown reasons about 9:30 a.m., authorities reported.

Crews were able to douse the non-injury blaze within five minutes, keeping it from spreading off the fixture where it originated, city fire department spokeswoman Brianne Daley said.

The structure also sustained some smoke damage, she said. The cause of the fire was under investigation.
