San Diego Tennis Team Beats Springfield Lasers At La Costa

The San Diego Aviators rallied for an 18-17 victory over the Springfield Lasers Tuesday evening at Omni La Costa Resort & Spa in Carlsbad.

CARLSBAD, CA – A final set victory by Ryan Harrison helped the defending World TeamTennis champion San Diego Aviators to an 18-17 victory over the Springfield Lasers Tuesday evening at the Omni La Costa Resort & Spa.

Harrison's 5-2 men's singles victory over German Ben Becker erased a 15- 13 deficit. Becker is not related to the German International Tennis Hall of Fame member Boris Becker.

Harrison opened the match by teaming with Raven Klaasen for a 5-1 victory over Becker and Jean-Julian Rojer in men's doubles.

The Aviators (2-0) got their other victory in the fourth set when Darija Jurak and Shelby Rogers defeated Francesca Schiavone and Abigail Spears, 5-4, in women's doubles, overcoming a 4-2 deficit.

Schiavone, the 2010 French Open women's singles champion, defeated Rogers, 5-2, in women's singles Rojer and Spears defeated Klaasen and Jurak, 5- 1, in mixed doubles for Springfield (1-2).

The Aviators will begin a two-match road trip Thursday at Washington. Their next home match will be Saturday, also against Springfield.
