St. Patrick Catholic Community In Carlsbad To Present 'The Sound of Music'

From St. Patrick Catholic Church: A production of Rodgers & Hammerstein’s classic “The Sound of Music” will debut at St. Patrick Catholic Church Wednesday, July 26, through Friday, July 28, each evening at 7 p.m. The musical is directed by award-winning lyric soprano vocalist and Coyote Cavern Productions Founder Katherine Gardner, and assistant directed by musical theater actress and private piano instructor Gail Wolford-Beall.

"I'm thrilled to be bringing this timeless, true story of moral and spiritual courage to our community,” said Director Katherine Gardner. “I've enjoyed seeing many of our younger cast members discover the joy and beauty of the exquisite Rodgers and Hammerstein score. The cast is extraordinary, and the love they feel for one another comes across on stage. It has been the experience of a lifetime."

Performances will take place at St. Patrick Catholic Church with all proceeds benefiting St. Patrick Catholic Community Parish Hall renovation. The family favorite production features youth of all ages from the Carlsbad community.

“This current production of 'The Sound of Music' promises to delight audiences of all ages,” said Assistant Director Gail Wolford-Beall. “The kids have worked very hard to make this performance truly magical.”

Tickets are available for $15 each. Purchase tickets Monday through Friday at the parish office. They will be sold on a first come, first serve basis at the show. There will be open limited seating.

“The Sound of Music” features music by Richard Rodgers, lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II, book by Howard Lindsay and Russel Crouse, suggested by “The Trapp Family Singers” by Maria Augusta Trapp. The 50th anniversary of the film was celebrated in 2015, which continues to be the most successful movie musical in history. The spirited, romantic and beloved musical story of Maria and the Von Trapp Family will once again thrill audiences with such songs as “My Favorite Things,” “Do-Re-Mi,” “Climb Ev’ry Mountain,” “Edelweiss” and “So Long, Farewell.”
