CARLSBAD, CA — The westbound lanes of state Route 78 near El Camino Real in Carlsbad are closed due to flooding, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Westbound traffic is being diverted off at El Camino Real.

The remnants of a cold storm system that arrived in San Diego County early this week will make its way east Friday evening, but not before dropping heavy rain Friday morning, snow in the mountains and possibly creating thunderstorms throughout the county, according to the National Weather Service.
A flash flood watch is in effect throughout the county until 8 p.m. Friday.

An urban and small stream flood advisory is also in effect in the western and northern portions of the county — including Oceanside, Escondido, Chula Vista, El Cajon, San Diego and Solana Beach — until 10:45 a.m. Friday.
Heavy rain is expected throughout the county Friday morning, then the rain will start to taper off Friday evening, forecasters said. Thunderstorms are possible throughout the county Friday afternoon.
