A Whole New 'Windmill' With Food Hall Coming To I-5 In Carlsbad

CARLSBAD, CA – The "Windmill," the iconic stop at the Palomar Airport Road exit along Interstate 5 in Carlsbad, will transform this summer into The Windmill Food Hall, complete with a full bar, outdoor area and a "library"' with fireplace.

From its former days as Pea Soup Andersen's to its most recent run as a TGI Fridays, the property will undergo a reincarnation and reopen in August as a 14,000-square-foot food hall featuring diverse eateries with delectable menus, according to operators.

The following businesses are planned at the site, developers said:

• Bing Haus - Asian-inspired dessert spot serving such cult-followed rolled ice cream as Green Tea, Banana, and Black Sesame;

• Crackheads - A full-service eatery with gourmet breakfast sandwiches and specialty coffee;

• Bread and Cheese - Made-from-scratch, grilled cheese sandwiches stuffed with gourmet cheeses, meats and specialty ingredients. Also serving pineapple smoothies made with fresh pineapples;

• Cross Street Chicken & Beer - Korean-style fried chicken. A popular, brick-and-mortar locale is on Convoy Street;

• Doughballs Pizza - Made-to-order pizzas with meat and veggie options;

• Rolled Up - Build-your-own, sushi burritos;

• Taco Lady - Gourmet, street tacos from the founder of El Puerto Mexican & Seafood;

• Thai Style Kitchen - Traditional Thai cuisine that originated from a travelling, pop-up food stand.

Along with an interior remodel adding a vintage '30s-'40s-inspired vibe, the Windmill Food Hall will offer a bar, an outdoor area and a room dubbed "The Library" with communal seating and a central fireplace. Also planned are family-friendly activities throughout the day and evening, an interactive green screen, ping pong and lawn games.
