1 Dead In Castro Valley Shooting

The shooting happened Tuesday evening. Deputies chased a car with suspects on Interstate Highway 580 into the Rockridge area of Oakland.

CASTRO VALLEY, CA — One person has died following a shooting in Castro Valley Tuesday evening.

The shooting happened at about 5:15 p.m. in the 19800 block of San Miguel Avenue.

The name of the victim has not been released.

According to a press release from Public Information Officer Sgt. Ray Kelly, "When deputies arrived on scene they located a victim in a vehicle suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. The victim was transported to a local hospital by paramedics and later pronounced deceased."

An earlier tweet from the sheriff's office said that there were two victims.

Kelley said, "deputies spotted the suspect vehicle on westbound I-580 toward Oakland. A traffic enforcement stop was initiated but the vehicle failed to stop and fled at a high rate of speed. Deputies pursued the vehicle onto Highway 13 and briefly lost sight of it. The vehicle was located a short time later near Highway 24 in the Oakland Rockridge District. Deputies spotted the suspects as they fled the vehicle on foot."

A perimeter was set up around the area. Oakland Police and other agencies are involved in the search using a helicopter, UAV’s, K9’s and officers on foot.

Rockridge residents were urged to shelter in place during the search.
