Baywood Court Retirement Community Awards $18,000 In Scholarships

The money is raised by residents, and all scholarship recipients work at Baywood Court in Castro Valley.

CASTRO VALLEY, CA — Baywood Court Retirement Community in Castro Valley handed out $18,000 in scholarships to employees on Monday, the 22nd annual Scholarship Fund Awards.

The money was presented to 15 employees to help further their college or trade school education. .

Each recipient received $1200.

The winners are Marwa Alocozy, Yemi Ruiz de Chavez, Manpreet Kaur, Oscar Leiva, Torin Newcomb, Stefani la Rosa, Austin Saechao, Kimberly Sanchez, Angel Serrano, Deepshika Shenal, Micaella Suarez, Tiana Tanjoco, Marvin Tayo, Tulimalefoi Tualaulelei, and Clarissa Walker.

“These generous contributions from our residents have gone above and beyond our expectations, and we’re thrilled to be able to help these 15 amazing employees in their educational pursuits,” said Matt Neal, CEO of Baywood Court. “The annual Scholarship Fund Awards would not be possible without residents who care deeply for their community and want to help make a difference. Thank you to our residents for their contributions, and a big congratulations to all the recipients.”

Baywood Court’s Residents Association Board formed a Scholarship Committee in 1999 to raise scholarship funds and encourage Baywood Court employees enrolled in college or a Certified Trade School to apply. Workers apply for the scholarships each spring and the money is awarded before the school year starts in the fall.

Baywood Court residents also fund care packages for the homeless, and volunteer for the Reading Buddies program.

Baywood Court was developed 30 years ago and provides a variety of levels of care depending on the needs of each resident. It offers independent living, assisted living and skilled nursing options.
