Castro Valley Man Injured in Newark Drive-By Shooting

Newark homicide detectives are investigating an early morning shooting that claimed the life of a Newark man and injured a Castro Valley man.

Police responded to reports of a drive-by shooting just after 4 a.m. at the intersection of Thornton Avenue and Mulberry Street in Newark. Arriving officers found two victims suffering from gunshot wounds.

A 21-year-old Newark resident was shot three times in his upper legs and arm and later died at a local hospital, according to police. A 22-year-old Castro Valley resident suffered a gunshot wound to his thigh but is expected to survive, police said.
