Chabot College Holds 55th Commencement Ceremony

Two sessions will be held on May 27. Congressman Eric Swalwell will address approximately 450 graduates taking part in the ceremony.

From Chabot College: Chabot College will recognize the graduates of 2016-2017 during two sessions at the commencement ceremonies on Saturday, May 27. Approximately 450 graduates will take part in the ceremonies. The first session processional will begin at 9 a.m. and the second session processional will begin at 11:30 a.m. in the Reed Buffington Performing Arts Center located at 25555 Hesperian Boulevard in Hayward. The general public is invited to the ceremony and seating is first come, first served. Free on-campus parking will be available.

"We are so very proud of our graduates, many of whom are the first to attend college in their families, and others who have faced enormous challenges to attain this accomplishment," said Chabot College President Dr. Susan Sperling. "And more exciting news to share, for the first time in Chabot College history, 100% of the college's architecture students were admitted into UC Berkeley's architecture program."

Congressman Eric Swalwell will serve as the commencement speaker at both sessions. Elected in 2012 to represent California's 15th Congressional District, which includes a large part of the eastern San Francisco Bay Area, Congressman Swalwell is a former deputy district attorney and city councilman. He is co-chair of the Democratic Steering and Policy Committee; serves on the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, where he is ranking member on the CIA Subcommittee; and serves on the Judiciary Committee.

Congressman Swalwell founded and chairs Future Forum, a group of 26 young Democratic Members of Congress focused on issues and opportunities for millennial Americans including student loan debt and home ownership.
